We started offering virtualisation to our customers 2001 with VMware. Virtualisation and cloud, as it is now called, has ever since been at the core of our infrastructure services.
As the size of the cloud is continuously increasing, more and better technologies are implemented and used to handle the complexity. OpenStack is one solution for this. It is in common use with telecom industry, and as we offer solutions for them, it has only been natural for us to also support OpenStack.
We consider OpenStack as an evolution and value-add technology co-operating with VMware vSphere, Linux KVM-based virtualisations, and even Microsoft Hyper-V.
It is from this background we developed our strategy to add OpenStack components to our deliveries when there is a business fit for it. These three examples might help to make the strategy more tangible:
- Mirrored Swift object storage backend for Commvault backup and archive platform with petabytes of data.
- Block storage, object storage, compute platform for public sector organisation.
- NFV-enabled, dynamic, and orchestrated solution for mobile operator.
